One of the World Meteorological Organization’s top strategic priorities – to ensure that everyone on Earth is protected by Early Warning Systems (EWS) in the next five years – is gaining momentum.
The World Meteorological Organization is stepping up its activities to protect people from climate and health-related hazards, including extreme heat, as part of an ambitious drive towards improved early warnings and action.
On February 21, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) held a review meeting to carry out operational review of CMA Global Forecast System V4.0 (CMA-GFS V4.0). The expert panel held that CMA-GFS V4.0 featured by marked technical improvement and enhanced forecasting capacity met with operational upgrade requirement. The expert panel reached the consensus that the system passed operational review. Mr. Bi Baogui, Deputy Administrator of CMA attended the meeting.
From February 13 to 17, Regional Technical Conference of World Meteorological Organization (WMO)’s Regional Association I (RA I RECO 2023) and the third phase meeting of the 18th session was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

On January 11, World Meteorological Centre (WMC-BJ) and National Center of Meteorology of Saudi Arabia (NCM) Technical Meeting was held online and offline. Participants exchanged views on topics like sand and dust storm forecasting, disastrous weather monitoring and forecasting, weather modification technology and so on.
On December 13, the thirteenth Session of the Joint Working Group on cooperation in the field of meteorological science and technology between China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) of Vietnam was held online. Both sides reviewed the implementation of bilateral cooperative projects since the JWG-12.
